What is Tooth Sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity, also known as dentin hypersensitivity, occurs when the protective layer of your teeth, called enamel, wears away or when the gum tissue recedes, exposing the underlying layer, known as dentin. Dentin contains tiny tubes or tubules that connect to the tooth’s nerve center, making your teeth more susceptible to sensitivity.
